Resilient waterfronts and landscape infrastructure. Designed to perform.

Driftless Landscape Architecture brings practical solutions to complex sites, treating each project as a public realm puzzle to be solved through expert management of water, infrastructure, and regulatory systems.

We specialize in waterfront and infrastructure projects delivered through public–private partnerships, aligning resilience, permitting, funding, and construction to move projects from concept to reality.

Resilient Waterfronts & Infrastructure

Landscape-driven systems that integrate coastal protection, stormwater management, and public access—aligned with permitting, funding, and constructability.

Owner’s Representation

Independent leadership during construction to ensure that design intent, regulatory requirements, and project goals are delivered in the field.

Urban Forestry & Arboriculture

Tree-focused consulting that supports risk management, construction coordination, and long-term performance within complex urban environments.

Our work focuses on getting ecosystems-driven projects approved, built, and performing optimally under real conditions.

From feasibility to performance

Waterfront and infrastructure projects—particularly within public–private partnerships—require alignment across environmental systems, regulatory frameworks, funding, and construction.

With 25+ years of experience, we connect these elements and help project teams move forward with clarity.

  • Aligning site constraints, permitting pathways, and development objectives.

  • Integrating landscape, infrastructure, and public realm into buildable systems

  • Ensuring that the design that has been approved and funded is constructed as intended

Driftless Landscape Architecture is led by Jennifer Bolstad, a licensed landscape architect, construction manager, and certified arborist with over 25 years of experience delivering complex public and private projects.

Her work operates at the intersection of design, engineering, and construction—translating environmental and regulatory constraints into clear, buildable strategies.

She has successfully designed and implemented over half a billion dollars’ worth of complex site and landscape projects for clients including the NYC Department of Parks, NYC Economic Development Corporation, NYC Department of Environmental Protection, NYC Housing Preservation & Development, and NYC Department of Design and Construction.
